Short Game Shots
I was up in Portland over the weekend. A beautiful area of the country but a little warm, temps hit 90 plus and I always thought the Northwest was cold and rainy, boy was I wrong.
I was up there with my business partner Bill Mooney and the Bioforce staff shooting some new golf videos. I am excited about these new products we will soon be offering you. We were able to complete two new golf fitness videos.
The first was golf fitness exercises for the lower back
And
The second was golf fitness exercises for the senior golfer.
If you are one of the many suffering from lower back problems or "father time" is getting the best of you, then these two videos are sure to help!
I also had the privilege to do another two golf instruction videos.
I paired up with PGA professional instructor Christopher Smith.
And let me say he is quite an instructor. He works with Nike Golf, rated as the top instructor in the Pacific Northwest, and was featured in Golf Digest magazine not to long ago.
I know you are really going to like the instructional videos he and I put together. He provides some wonderful instructional information and mental approaches to the game that I know will improve your golf game.
One of the videos we filmed was on the short game.
The short game is probably the most important part of the game to improve your scoring.
I know Phil has told me looking at it statistically, your short game should be practiced at least twice as much as your full swing.
I cannot agree with him more, but it appears the amateur at times has difficulty grasping all the components that go into chipping and pitching.
For example with chipping, Christopher put the context of chipping into a very simple and easy to understand format.
He said quite often we make chipping to hard on ourselves.
We are told to place the ball in our stance here, and place our feet there, draw the club to wherever, so on and so forth.
And if you are thinking about these things when chipping, good luck!
You are going to have a heck of a time with your short game.
Christopher said many parts of the golf swing are similar to other activities we have performed in the past.
He said for example, have you ever thrown a ball underhand before?
I think we can all say yes to that statement.
Take the underhand throw you have performed in your life time and time again, now do the same thing with a golf club!
What you just did is the basic chip shot!
You also have a good conceptual understanding of how to execute a chip shot with a previously performed motor pattern to take from your brain!
This is one of the reasons I know you are really going to like these new instructional videos with Christopher Smith.
So lets keep a few things in mind;
-
Short game is where scoring happens
-
Think about the underhand throw if you are struggling with the chip shot
-
Keep it simple
Make It Happen!
