My Favorite Power Exercises for the Golf Swing
The rain has subsided in New York, I had been building an ark last few days, but it looks like I am not going to need it. The weather is supposedly going to get nicer as the weekend arrives. A good thing for a few reasons; The course at Westchester is extremely wet, and Winged Foot the 6 inch rough is now around 12 inches because they have not been able to cut it because of the rain.
I don't know about you, but I sure would not want to try to hit out of 12 inch rough. The world was also set straight last night as the Red Sox came back to beat the Yankees. Schilling is having a pretty good year.
The last few days we have been discussing how to hit the golf ball longer and straighter. We know it comes down to three basics principles:
-
Improve Efficiency in Your Golf Swing Mechanics
-
Developing Your Body Around Your Golf Swing
-
Choosing the Right Equipment to Match Your Golf Swing
On the "Body Side" of the equation we know the body must be flexible, balanced, strong, and powerful.
This allows you the ability to perform the mechanics of the golf swing correctly and increase clubhead speed as well.
We also know increasing clubhead speed equates to increasing the power outputs from the swing.
One part of increasing power has to do with your body.
If you develop a more powerful body with golf fitness power exercises, the possibility of increasing your clubhead speed exists.
When it comes to power golf fitness exercises I have a couple that are favorites of mine.
They are:-
Seated Russian Twists
-
Tubing Side Rotations
-
Medicine Ball Side-to-Side
I like all three of these golf fitness exercises for a couple reasons.
Number one they develop the strength and power components of the core.
Number two they are exercises training the body in a rotational pattern.
Remember we must train the body to the positions, movements, and requirements of the golf swing.
So if you are looking to add distance to your drives keep in mind the BioForce Formula and recognize the body is part of that formula.
