Longer Drives, How can you make it Happen?
Over the past few years on the PGA Tour distance off the tee is always in the headlines. Take a look at PGATour.com and you will see statistics on driving distance, driving accuracy, and total driving.
Lets face it, one of the biggest desires of the amateur (myself included) is hitting the ball farther, and let's not forget straighter.
The answer to the question we are all seeking is:
How Can I Drive the Golf Ball Farther?
The answer is not something I have not discussed before, but I may be able to shine a little more light on the subject after this past week.
At the PGA Championship I walked the course one day with Top Ranked Golf Instructor Rick Smith.
It is always very informative when I am able to spend some time on the course with Rick.
He is one of the best in the business and deservedly so.
Rick knows the golf swing inside and out.
He can watch a swing and tell you exactly what is going on and what needs to be changed.
Now walking the course with Rick I learn more and more about the golf swing. I understand to a higher level the intricacies of each component of the swing and how it all works together.
I also know Rick is in complete agreement of how integral the body is in the execution of the golf swing.
Plain and simple the mechanics of the golf swing are performed by the body.
And in order to execute the mechanics of the golf swing to the best of your ability the body requires certain amounts of flexibility, strength, endurance, and power.
Bottom line the body is coordinated in the execution of the golf swing, and if the desire is to increase driving distance:
Training the body in addition to your swing is needed.
Increased distance is not simply done by working on the range, nor is it not done by just training the body.
It is a combination of many components, the body being one of them, the mechanics of your swing being another.
So if the desire is increased driving distance, more than one component needs to be addressed in your golf swing improvement program.
