I Recently Needed to Jump Start My Golf Fitness Program!

I hit a plateau a month or so ago with my workouts. I felt like I was in a little rut, not making the gains that I wanted with my goals.

I can remember the day, August 31st . I decided I needed to change things up a little with my workout routine, so I reset some of my targets and decided to lose a few unwanted pounds of blubber.

How To Stretch Your Lower Back

Well the saga continues with my golfing buddy who strained his lower back this past weekend. I saw him just yesterday and he was hunch over and hobbling. My thoughts were of the "hunch back of Notre Dame" but I held back from razing him.

He is a good friend of mine and actually we were college roommates for a time, so he is all too familiar with my profession and golf fitness prescriptions.

I do notice at times with many individuals it requires an injury or spiraling of play on the golf course before they seek assistance.

My good friend definitely falls into this category. He was very well aware of the benefits of training his body for the golf swing, on the injury prevention side of the equation and performance improvement end as well.

He just decided to ignore the information until now.

Let say me say this:

He is now on board and ready to do what he needs to do to get back on the course and stay on the course.

I talked to him yesterday about pre-habilitation exercises:

Exercises for the Golfer to Prevent Injuries.

I talked to him about the stresses of the golf swing on the lower back, how GOLF FITNESS EXERCISES can increase the strength and endurance of these muscles, and prevent such injuries.

In addition to providing him with some lower back strengthening exercises I also discussed FLEXIBILITY.

I talked to him about how when muscles are stressed, they become FATIGUED, and when muscles get tired.

They TIGHTEN up and get INFLEXIBLE.

Once MUSCLES get tight it becomes very difficult to swing the golf club.

We talked about in addition to adding golf fitness strengthening exercises to his golf swing improvement program.

The concept of adding some LOWER BACK FLEXIBILITY exercises to it.

This will help keep his lower back LOOSE.

At the end of the conversation I gave him three simple lower back flexibility exercises

  1. Openers,
  2. Cats Down & Up,
  3. and
  4. Cobras
  5. To help him back on the course.

I will check in with him in a week and see how he is doing. Hopefully this little injury was enough of a "wake-up call" to keep his golf fitness program in tact.
